President Meets With Legislative Leaders at White House

Discussions focus on emergency foreign aid and government funding.

President Joe Biden convened a meeting on Tuesday with House Speaker Mike Johnson, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell at the White House.

The president has advocated for the emergency aid package his administration seeks for Israel and Ukraine. The leaders will also discuss the need to pass appropriations to avoid a government shutdown in March.

National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said, “This is one of those instances where one person can bend the course of history. Speaker Johnson, if he put this bill on the floor, would produce a strong, bipartisan majority vote in favor of the aid to Ukraine.”

Speaker Johnson said that his party “will continue to work in good faith and hope to reach an outcome as soon as possible, even as we continue to insist that our own border security must be addressed immediately.“

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the president and congressional leaders to receive God’s direction as they discuss foreign aid and government funding.
  • For wisdom for Speaker Johnson and the other top legislators regarding the federal budget.
